Orange Crush at Orange County Museum of Art Newport Beach
Katie and Joe were married in May 2008 at 40 Martyrs Armenian Church in a culturally rich ceremony followed by a beautiful reception that captured the essence of Orange County! The couple lives and works in Washington DC, and Katie is originally from Irvine, so they decided to host the wedding here. The day was flawlessly executed by Kelly Aguilar from Social Butterfly Events and catered by Posh Event Productions. We love what they did with the oranges and kumquats in the buffets and cake stand! Katie was one of Christine’s favorite brides this year because she was one of the most appreciative of our efforts to promote eco-friendly flowers due to a personal experience she had at a flower farm in Colombia.
Here is what she had to say:
Hi Christine,
Â
I am so excited about working with you for our upcoming wedding! Not only are you incredibly creative and talented, the flowers at our wedding will be good for environment and the people who labor to grow and pick the flowers. I had the chance to visit a flower farm in Colombia in 2004 and meet with workers there who are struggling to defend their rights to safe and fair working conditions. I met a female worker my age (a majority of flower workers are young women) and I’ll never forget how brave she was in risking her own job security to organize the workers and demand a living wage, safer use of poisonous pesticides (they cause birth defects, sterility and all kinds of health problems), protection from sexual abuse and arbitrary firing/lack of job security.  She was fighting an uphill battle, and ever since then I’ve been looking for a way to help. It is only fitting that the flowers that will celebrate one of the most significant days of my life will come from farms where human life is valued as much as profit!  Â
Enthusiastically,
Katie Malouf
